Here's how to get rid of hiccups.

I learned this as a kid.

I don't remember who taught it to me, but it always works.

And right now I have the hiccups.

I'm trying to film a video and have had the hiccups for the last couple of minutes.

So I'm just going to try this now and see if it works.

And the trick is kind of a mental trick.

You imagine as you breathe in and out, your fingers going up and down and being kind of out of alignment.

Like imagine them like a gauge.

And as you breathe out, the gauge goes down.

And as you breathe in, it goes up and your fingers representing that gauge are out of alignment when you're hiccuping because your diaphragm is spasming, right?

The hiccups are a spasm of the diaphragm.

So what you want to do, and you can close your eyes to visualize this, is breathe in and imagine those being kind of out of whack with one another.

And then as you breathe in and out, slowly getting them to be in alignment.

And I know this is silly, I don't know why this works, but my guess is because your diaphragm is one of those muscles that's partially voluntary and partially involuntary, you can kind of control your breathing, but you can't control the spasming.

And I think it's something about just getting some active mental control of your breathing that helps control those spasms.
