Want More Funding for Schools? Ask When School Is Out

In this video, Dr. Justin Baeder points out that the best time to advocate for school funding is during breaks when parents directly feel the impact of schools not being in session.

Key Takeaways

  • Timing matters for advocacy - Parents value schools most when they're not in session and childcare becomes their responsibility
  • Schools provide enormous value - Beyond education, schools provide supervision, meals, social development, and structure that families depend on
  • Make the case when it matters - Funding advocacy resonates most when the public is reminded of what schools do

Okay, so school is about out for the summer.

We're about to go pick up our kids in about 15 minutes.

And I feel like the best time to ask for raises in education, the best time to ask for more money, the best time to put a ballot measure out to raise money for schools is over the summer.

Why do we have these elections during the school year when everybody's happy, everybody's kids are in school, everybody's doing great?

Why do we raise money for schools then instead of the third week of summer?

So like, I don't know when your elections are, when your ballot measures are, but I think if we want more funding for schools, we should ask for it like three weeks after school gets out.

Let me know what you think.
